AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEMAND BOOMS AS BOMA YANGU SIGN-UPS HIT 1 MILLION!
HIGHLIGHTS
● 262,913 housing units under development in 111 constituencies across 47 counties
● Registrations now exceed 1 million – proving growing trust and confidence in AHP projects
{Nairobi, 5th February 2026} — Kenyans registered under the Boma Yangu platform (bomayangu.go.ke) have now surpassed the 1 million mark, underscoring strong and growing interest in the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP).
Data from the Affordable Housing Board shows these projects are highly attractive due to their prime urban locations, good road networks, electricity and water connections, and essential public services including schools, markets, healthcare facilities, and shopping centres.
Speaking on this milestone, Housing PS Charles Hinga said:
“One million Kenyans committing to own housing units is not a small feat. Kenyans have outgrown pessimism about AHP and are now saving money for their preferred unit through the government-owned portal, Boma Yangu.”
“This government is setting a historic precedent in housing delivery. While it took 15 years to build 5,000 units in Buruburu, the Mukuru AHP delivered 1,078 units in its first year and successfully handed over 4,500 completed units to new homeowners on 18th December. The estate features a shopping complex, a Level 4 hospital, and an education complex comprising pre-primary, primary, junior, and senior secondary schools.”
PS Hinga added that the AHP caters for all income groups, including:

Social housing for households earning up to KSh 20,000 per month

Affordable housing for those earning KSh 20,000 – KSh 149,000

Market-rate housing for higher-income earners
Currently, 262,913 housing units are under construction across 47 counties, employing 428,000 Kenyans full-time on-site, while over 1 million more are engaged full-time in supplying materials, services, and accessories to AHP projects.
